Over 1.2 million bibles have been distributed to Christians in South Asia by the Bible League with an ambitious plan to send even more this year.
In its newsletter distributed earlier this month, the League reported that time and time again people living in South Asia are using the Bible, the materials and the training provided by them to teach hungry hearts in these nations.
Sharing a testimony with its readers, it talked about how after Avinash's father attended the Bible League Bible Study he gradually began to understand his need for forgiveness. After reading and studying the word he began to receive Jesus Christ into his heart and insisted that Avinash also attend the Bible study.
The newsletter continued, saying that despite government interference, nothing can restrain the power of God's Words, which gives life and light so that His church will continues to multiply.
Even in the face of anti-conversion law, aggressive Hindu nationalism and violent persecution, Christians are working hard for the cause of Christ, the newsletter stated. Christians know that faith means taking risks, making sacrifices and anticipating persecution.
Nepal, with a population of 41 percent under the age of 15, has 60,000 scriptures being placed in the hand of Nepali and over 2,500 leaders being trained there in 2006.
The Nepalese national director of the Bible League said that Nepali Christianity has an 'evangelistic flavour.'
