China's Legendary Films has announced that they have bought the movie rights to make a live action Pokémon movie by partnering with the Pokemon Company based on a new video game character, "Detective Pikachu." Great Detective Pikachu is an adventure game which features Pikachu in the role of a detective like Sherlock Holmes, who investigates and solves mysteries in the game. Fans might get to see a talking Pikachu with a Sherlock Holmes style hat. The game was released in Japan in February 2016.
For the fan's information, production of the movie is expected to begin in 2017.
The announcement takes Pokemon fever beyond with the augmented-reality game Pokemon Go already sending the world into a frenzy.
Legendary reportedly grabbed film rights to Pokemon as they were being shopped around just weeks after the launch of Pokemon Go.
