The fan-made game, Pokémon Uranium, has been removed from the download links by the game's creators. The game was released on August 6 after nine years in development. The game's developers have claimed that Pokémon Uranium had hit over 1.5 million downloads.
The move was initiated after Pokemon's official developer, Nintendo, issued a legal notice to the Pokémon Uranium developers. The lawyers representing Nintendo sent multiple takedown notices, which prompted the developers to pull down the download links from the site.
Pokémon Uranium developers issued a statement saying, "Though we have not in person been contacted, it is apparent what the Pokemon Company wishes for, and we respect their wishes deeply".
Pokémon Uranium developers also clarified that they do not have any connection with the fans who re-upload the game files on different online hosts, and they cannot verify that those download links are all genuine. The developers also advised that game enthusiasts need to be very cautious in relation to downloading the game from unofficial sources.
Pokémon Uranium was rolled out on Windows platform PCs in the first week of the August, bringing out nearly 150 new Pokémon in admiration to the original Pokémon game. The non-official game has placed its quest in the Tandor area, which is a region where Pokemon have mutated after being exposed to a radiation. The gamers work is to fight and catch the creatures.
