The trip will include a visit to the Our Lady of Guadalupe shrine, but no further details of the trip have been confirmed.
Francis has had a long term interest in visiting Mexico and even considered travelling across the border from the US during his visit in September in a sign of solidarity with immigrants.
The Pope often speaks on immigration and the issues surrounding; at the White House he said, "As the son of an immigrant family, I am happy to be a guest in this country, which was largely built by such families."
Further details, including the date of the trip, are yet to be disclosed.
