Reese Witherspoon wowed critics with her performance in Wild so much that they are saying there is a high probability she would get her second Oscar for it. Wild, which is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, is based on the autobiography of Cheryl Strayed.
The actress gave a very realistic portrayal of her role as Cheryl Strayed who, because of the devastation she felt at the death of her mother, became trapped in self-destructive behavior that affected her marriage. In the midst of all this, she decided to go backpacking across the 1,100-mile Pacific Crest trail on her own.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie is a good choice for Witherspoon as her last few movies had been 'mediocre' ones. And the shift from Witherspoon's usual sunny roles to a spirited, tough persona has helped distinguish her performance in Wild from her other movies.
Although far from being perfect, Wild was successfully transformed by director Jean-Marc Vallée from a contemplative autobiography into a heartrending film, EW reported.
