Beloved actor and comedian Robin Williams shocked the world and took his own life four months ago, and it has been extremely hard for his family to talk about their loss.
It was so difficult that Zak, Robin's son with Valerie Velardi, gave his first interview with People just now since his father's death.
"I miss him all the time," Zak admitted. "Often I see something or if I'm watching a film, I think, 'Oh man, he would have appreciated this' or 'He would have gotten a laugh out of this.'"
He appreciated the fact that Williams was not only a great parent, but also an outstanding friend to him. "You don't always have that in a parent," he said.
31-year-old Zac also said that the family still thinks about Williams constantly, and that sometimes their emotions get the best of them that they need to "step aside and take a moment to breathe."
He shared his thoughts during the annual Dana & the Christopher Reeve Foundation benefit, where his father used to help. Williams had a charitable heart, as he was often volunteering for the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
His son Zak is now following his footsteps by devoting time to help a local prison. "It's through helping others that I've begun to heal," Zak shared.
