Rob Ward, the Victorian Chief-of-Staff at the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), warned about the 'terrible' consequences of RU 486, an abortion drug, as another hospital was given permission to use it by the health authority.
Talking to Christian Today Australia, Mr. Ward said that the drug was simply a medical abortion and it should not be made available given the great risk it posed to women.
"RU 486 is simply a medical abortion rather than a surgical abortion," he said.
"It has terrible consequences and we don't think that is something which should be made available. It has great risk for the woman and we should not be using abortion as a method of contraception and that is exactly what RU486 does."
WESTMEAD Hospital was given approval by the Therapeutic Goods Administration to use the abortion pill RU486 in rare cases, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.
