Pornography, especially Internet pornography, is powerful and harmful, Reverend Dr. John Woodhouse, the principal of
Moore College, said as the theological seminary embarks on a new program designs to weed out its perverse influence within
those studying and working in the school.
Speaking to the Sydney Anglicans.net, a media portal site for the Sydney Anglican, Dr. Woodhouse described pornography as
'exploiting and misus(ing) powerful, natural, God-given instincts' to destroy the individual, their relationship (including
marriages) and ministries.
The power of these pornographic materials, Dr. Woodhouse continued, stemmed from their ability to ensnare the unsuspecting
visitor through their, almost innocent, curiousity. For Christians, there was an added dimension to this addiction where the
shame, in visiting the site, caused more problems.
To minimise the influence of these materials, the Sydney Anglican seminary will encourage all its students and faculty
members to, voluntarily, install a software program, known as Convenant Eyes, onto their computer which records all the
websites they visited while surfing the Internet.
The motivation of this initiative was not to condemn but to help the user. Through the software, the secrecy of visiting these sites anonymously will also be removed thus taking the 'power of the bad guys, who are purveyors of pornography,' said Dr. Woodhouse.
