Since Hui Tong took over as Head Coach of Diving Australia and the Australian Institute of Sport Diving Unit at Chandler in Brisbane in 2001, Diving in Australia has gone up and up with both Chantelle Newbrey's Gold and Bronze Medals in Athens and Matthew Mitcham's Gold in Beijing.
Hui Tong was the Chinese 10 met board Diving Champion with his first international competition at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics followed by two Gold Medals in subsequent Diving World Cups. In 1989 he and his wife Xing, the Chinese Women's Diving Champion relocated to Canada where he coached the Canadian team at both the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympics.
In 2001 Hui Tong commenced as the Australian Diving Head Coach along with the AIS High Performance Centre under his helm. There are regular National Diving competitions in age championships along with the seniors.
The Diving Australia National Talent Identification Program Coordinator, Chantelle Newbery has been busy spotting the best diving talent. Special training camps are held as new experiences for the young squads.
One was the performance analysis training undertaken by PhD scholar Sian Barris. The athletes were filmed during water training with a replay at the end of the training session and feedback from their coach. Divers were able to identify their weak areas and improve on them in training.
The Australian diving team is currently in Germany and the web site has an article on the squad busily training for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi India.

Well-Being Australia's 'Respite Ministry' of Mark and Delma Tronson has enjoyed visiting the AIS Diving Unit, and made welcome by Hui Tong, while he and his family along with his coaching staff have enjoyed Basil Sellers Tweed respite facility. Hui Tong invited them to address the 2008 Olympic Diving team before leaving for Beijing.
