Sir Alex Ferguson ended a nightmare week with a disappointing 0-0 draw 4 days after being knocked out of Europe. United were without injured Rooney and couldn't find the net at Ewood Park. Blackburn played well and battled hard and fully deserved a point. Ferguson now knows Chelsea are in the ascendency as United are 1 point behind but have played an extra game.
Manchester City cemented 4th position with a thumping 5-1 home win over Birmingham. Two goals from Tevez and Adebayor sealed the impressive victory and sent out a firm reminder to the chasing pack. Liverpool struggled at home to an impressive Fulham display. Having both played in midweek Liverpool lacked the cutting edge up front without injured Torres. The draw sees Liverpool in further turmoil as Rafa knows 4th place is slipping away.
Burnley travelled to the KC Stadium to take on Hull City in a massive 6 pointer. Burnley needed to win to keep there slim hopes alive of avoiding the drop. However when Hull took the lead early through some ordinary defence the signs looked ominous. Dennis Laws had other ideas and his half time team talk must have worked as 38 year old Alexander struck home 2 penalties. Elliot added a fantastic free kick late on to seal an impressive 4-1 away win. The win gave there faithful fans a fantastic day out as they celebrated the win like winning the world cup.
In the other games West Ham had a much needed 1-0 home win to a poor away Sunderland outfit. The black cats have been terrible away from home this season and their poor away form continued as Zola's men took the much needed 3 points. Zola looked a relieved man after the game as West Ham are now 4 points clear from the dreaded bottom three. Wolves and Stoke played out an entertaining 0-0 draw in Wolverhampton. Both teams seemed happy with a point as Wolves edge closer to safety.
There are 4 more fixtures midweek as the FA Cup semi finals were played. Chelsea advanced to the final with a 3-0 win over Villa while Relegated Portsmouth surprised Spurs with a 2-0 win.
