The CD contains 10 Christian pop/rock songs written, performed and produced by members of the St Paul's music team.
"Not everyone has the gift of songwriting, but if you do have that gift, you should develop and use it – this album is an opportunity for our people to put into practice their God-given talents," Mr McLean says.
"We've also created something that can be a blessing to our church by encouraging and assisting people in their personal worship of God."
However Mr McLean hopes the album will also be good news for churches across Australia who are looking for fresh worship songs.
"We're providing churches with new songs to sing at church which are biblically sound,
contemporary and singable," Mr McLean says.
"We've gone for a contemporary feel that represents the sound of our family, youth and young adult services."
St Paul's has made lyrics, chord charts, scores and behind-the-scenes videos available for FREE on the album website, www.cityalight.com.
Songs from CITY ALIGHT can also be digitally downloaded through online music stores such as ITunes, while the album will be available through established retail outlets such as Koorong.
The CD will also be available at BLACK STUMP from 4th-6th October, where a St Paul's worship team will be playing.
Many of the songs featured on the album are already sung regularly in the Anglican Parish of Castle Hill.
The CD is largely the result of a growing initiative to encourage songwriters at St Paul's, some of whom are still in their teens.
Three of the songwriters featured on the album also have their own Christian music albums.St Paul's Castle Hill is well-known for its music, with one album, GREAT IS YOUR LOVE (1997) already in the marketplace.
"We're in an area of Sydney that's rich in the arts and recognised as a church that is gifted in creativity because of our location," says Mr McLean.
St Paul's senior minister, the Rev John Gray, has appeared on Hope 103.2 FM and community radio 2CCR FM as part of the pre-launch publicity.
Mr Gray says the album has been called CITY ALIGHT, to reflect St Paul's desire to be the 'city on a hill' in Matthew 5:12-14, that those who hear it would be "drawn to the light of the world".
