I was very happy, excited and elated to find out my beloved New England Patriots won the Super Bowl back in early February.
In a trip to America back in September last year I was fortunate enough to watch the opening home game for my Patriots and then five months later they were crowned champions.
But how I discovered they had won is almost a tale in itself.
It was two loooooong weeks between the semi-finals and the actual Super Bowl, so by the time the game came around it was a relief it was finally here.
All the pageantry and pre-game hoopla surrounding the Super Bowl every year had finished and now it was down to two teams to battle it out for the title.
The defending champions – and #1 ranked defence – the Seattle Seahawks were facing the New England Patriots – led by the evergreen Tom Brady and a coach so smart he could beat you in chess when you were playing checkers.
Unfortunately, I relied solely on text updates from friends and family to know what was going on.
The game
The score was 14-7 with 30 seconds left in the half and I was glad the Patriots had a lead heading into the break. But Seattle had other ideas and stormed down the field on a couple of big plays to level it up at 14-14.
After the halftime break my phone went off again: Seattle was leading 24-14 with only 7 minutes to go in the game.
My heart sank as I prepared for a loss and the sad end to our season.
Then, at 2:08 in the afternoon, a symphony of noises came from my phone as I found out they had come back, got the lead and had a last minute turnover to win the game! A very exciting ending and I was ecstatic with the result.
Once I found out the result I calmly walked outside and let rip at the top of my lungs: 'YESES!', 'WHOOPEES', YAHOOS' and a heap of loud cheering and hollering.
It must have been a strange sight for the workmen next door to see me randomly go off like that but I couldn't care less.
My team had won the Super Bowl and I was going to enjoy it for as much as it was worth.
It definitely made waking up at 5:30am every day much easier, and still does for a little while more!
