Supernatural's 11th season left fans wondering what will become of the Winchester family, with Dean spotting his resurrected mother Mary in the woods, whilst Sam, separated from his brother, gets shot by Lady Toni.
The twelfth season is set to pick up where the story left off, and despite things appearing tense for the trio, Dean, Sam and Mary are reportedly set to work together again as a family.
Executive producer Robert Singer revealed in an interview that Dean's rescue mission will tie up within just a few episodes.
"As far as [Sam] knows, the bomb blew up, and that's what saved the world," he said. "We get that over with pretty quickly – but they're action-packed, and all our characters are involved."
Jensen Ackles adds that the younger brother has "no reason to believe Dean would even be coming for him," but despite being in the dark about his whereabouts, this will quickly change after taking a leaf out of Liam Neeson's book.
"Dean's got to figure out quickly what has happened, where he is, and then it turns into a bit of Taken."
Once the brothers are reunited, its nothing but love, Singer declares "They're happy to see each other." But the reunion may be cut short as they finally face their back-from-the-dead mother, and find out some long-awaited answers.
The series, which kicked off in 2005, began with Dean as a young boy when his mother was killed by a demon with yellow eyes. Her other son, Sam was in a crib when all this happened. As the series progressed, the brothers try to forget the incident while battling with evil forces.
It has been confirmed that season 12 will not be the last, after CW President Mark Pedowitz shared his desire to run the series to for longer.
Meanwhile, co-executive producer Jim Michaels revealed that season 12, which premieres October 12, will have 23 episodes in total.
