It's a triumph for the throwback Taylor Swift pop album, "1989" on the Billboard charts, as the blockbuster album named for the year the artist was born overtakes the soundtrack to Disney's "Frozen."
Selling 430,000 album equivalent units, Swifts latest offering managed to get past Disney's smash hit, "Frozen", making it the best selling album of 2014.
Consistently throughout the year, the soundtrack to the animated film was the best selling album since it came out. But when it finally came down to the final frame, "1989" takes over the top spot—an event that hasn't happened in the history of Nielsen's album tracking.
Nicki Minaj's "The Pinkprint" stays in number 2 followed by Pentatonix's "That's Christmas to Me," in number three. English boy band, One Direction closely follows at number four and Sam Smith's "In the Lonely Hour" takes the fifth spot.
