It was in 2007 or 2008 that I first had an encounter with a homosexual male. Back in those days, there was a social meeting website called Hi-Five. Long before Facebook was the rave, this was the site where people went to hook up. I opened a profile and uploaded a few pictures of myself.
To my absolute surprise one of the first comments I got was from a male. I realized that he was saying things that a male should only say to a female. He was a homosexual. I became angry. No, mad. No furious. No, outraged. No, disrespected. No, violated. I felt disrespected and violated.
Up to that point my stance on homosexuals was to stay far from them. I had just started my walk with Christ, and my mind was not yet renewed. I didn’t want to have anything to do with homosexuals. But, Father God had a different idea.
I remembered looking at the comments and I just could not believe what I read. I sat at the computer and lifted my hand above my head in disgust, intending to smash the delete button and delete the man’s comments.
Then, something supernatural happened. My hand became stuck. As I tried to bring my finger down to hit the delete button, my finger became stuck in mid-air. I literally tried in vain to force my hand but couldn’t. Then, the voice of God spoke to me.
I died for him too
God spoke to me in that very instant, “I died for him too”. What? “I died for him too”. Those words broke my heart immediately and within seconds I was able to bring down my hand gently to my computer.
I didn’t delete the comment. God had spoken to me about that homosexual. I knew He had said something profound to me about that man and about homosexuality in general. It wasn’t easy for me to take, because I thought homosexuals were just that way from birth.
Pray for that man
I sat wondering what to do. I knew God had spoken to me. I heard Him in my mind. Another thought came to me “Pray for that man”. What? The thought came again, “Pray for that man”. I wrestled with that instruction.
What can I say? How should I pray? I heard myself praying deeply and intensely for the brother. After praying I was shocked about how I prayed. Something deep within me wanted to see him free from that bondage, yet I didn’t know him. God led me to pray like that for him.
I decided to reply his message. I was a little nervous. I told him what God said to me and that I prayed for him. My reply seemed to break something in the brother. He wrote back and I could sense a change in him. To my surprise, the man told me he was a Christian, a praise and worship leader, and struggling with homosexuality. But no one at his church knew of it. I couldn’t believe what I was reading.
Wow, I was shocked. Here was this man - a Christian and living as a homosexual. It was a lot to take in. This is what God knew about him and why He told me to pray for him. He wanted me to see the man as He, God, saw the man.
As I prayed for this homosexual man, God began to work upon the man’s heart. This is the Father’s heart for every homosexual, lesbian, transgender and everyone struggling with sexual issues and gender identity. He loves them.
Jesus Christ can set every homosexual free right now, today. But, He needs His born again saints, to agree with Him and pray for those struggling with homosexuality. Will you pray? Will you agree with God today, and lift up someone struggling with homosexuality?
I didn’t keep in touch with the brother, but I knew something significant happened in his life from that encounter. God broke my wrong perspective on homosexuals and homosexuality. He showed me His heart and mind towards them. In fact, I was so stirred that it eventually led me to write a book entitled, “Homosexuality Unveiled”. In this book, I answer questions like: Can someone be a Gay Christian? Can someone be born a homosexual? Did God create homosexuals?, etc. Keep in touch with me at: BooksByDavid2018@gmail.com for the release of that book.
Shalom and many blessings.
