It was the year 2006 that I finally turned my life over to Jesus Christ. I walked to the altar. No. I was dragged to the altar by a lady. It felt weird. I really wasn’t planning on going to any altar at all that year.
But, I guess the Heavenly Father had other ideas. I was not one of those persons who was seeking Christ. I think Christ was seeking me. I ended up praying and asking Jesus Christ to be my Lord, God and King.
I didn’t see any lightning flash or hear any thunder roll. I didn’t feel any fire and electricity moving in my body either. So, I was wondering if something really happened to me at that altar. I guess something did happened, because of what happened to me next, this time in my home.
Not too long after receiving Christ into my life, I had a strange encounter one night at home. I was not asleep but was lying in bed, when suddenly I felt a strange presence in my room. Remember, I was not sleeping.
Then I felt like that person or presence came upon me and began to press against me. I remember feeling something against my left foot. So I tried to move it, then my foot became stuck, almost like it was clamped. I tried to move my right foot, then that foot also became stuck.
I began looking more intensely around the room to see if someone might have come inside and on me, but as far as I know I was the only one there. “What’s happening?”, I said inside.
Then, I tried to move my right hand, and whatever it was in the room clamped that hand. I tried to punch with the other hand, then that hand became stuck too. I finally realized that whatever it was in the room, it/he/she was responding to my every move. I was way out of my depth.
I didn’t know what was happening. I kept on trying to wiggle my body and fight back at whatever was fighting me. Needless to say, I got nowhere. All this time, I am trying to figure out what may be happening in my room because, as I said earlier, there was no one else with me.
Then, I heard a soft, yet firm voice say these words (Spiritual warfare). I wasn’t quite sure what that meant as I had recently started walking with Christ and didn’t know much about anything. After I heard those words, some thoughts rushed to my mind about things I heard at church about the Name and Blood of Jesus. So I began to say the (The Blood of Jesus, the Blood of Jesus).
Well, to my shock and awe that thing in my room didn’t like that because it literally began to close my mouth. I felt like only half of my mouth was free and the other half shut. Man, this was crazy. I began to mumble the Name of Jesus inside my heart and mind, and as I kept on doing that, the thing began to lose its grip on me.
Eventually, I regained some control of my mouth again and started saying the Name and Blood of Jesus more vigorously. Freedom started coming to my entire body. I was able to raise myself up off the bed and this time I began speaking unknown languages in an angry, militant tone.
Well readers, this might be hard to explain, but I heard what sounded like hundreds of birds wings fluttering together as that thing left my room. I got up angry, frightened, shocked and shaking. I realized that this was no normal experience. Something weird that I have never experienced before had happened to me.
I was confused for days and weeks. I didn’t know what to do or who to talk to. So, I talked to Jesus. I said to Him, “I was under the impression that such a thing as a demonic visitation would never happen to me now that I am serving You. How could it happen?” But, it did happen.
So I asked the Lord, “Why did it happen?” Well, He answered me. Yes, that’s right. Father God spoke to me and explained it all. He showed me that when I was in sin, the devil was my king and lord. I did his bidding and will. But when I became born again, Jesus became my King and Lord now. The devil was not willing to let me go without a fight so he sent his agents to attack and torment me to return to his kingdom.
It took me a while to understand this, but it’s all clear to me now. This, my friends, is how I was introduced to the realness of spiritual warfare and switching from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. I became wiser from that day.
“The LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear. The LORD is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid. When the wicked even my enemies and my foes came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell” (Psalm chapter 27, verses 1-2).
