In 2006, three Liberal (Progressive) Rabbis were ordained in Dresden, and in June 2009 nine Orthodox Rabbis were ordained in Munich. These statistics reveal there is a Jewish population 'coming out' as it were.
The event was held by the Central Council of Jews and attended by many German dignitaries. The story was reported by Kobi Nahshoni from 'Ynetnews.com'

The Rabbinic School's President, Rabbi Chanoch HaKohen Ehrentreu, said of the ceremony: "Sixty years after the destruction we ordain as rabbis, here on German soil, nine young yeshiva [religious school] students who grew up and were educated in German Torah schools, and who will serve at communities in western and eastern Germany and the former Soviet republics.
"We, the Rabbis of Europe, have endured the horror and lost our entire families at the hands of the murderers," he added. "And today we return here to Germany and proudly praise the soul of our culture - the Torah [Gen.-Deut.] - in the streets of Munich, and see the scholarly students who will bequeath it to the next generations."
M V Tronson has a professional interest in this field. He was one of 48 Gentiles officially invited to the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz in Poland at the March of the Living in 2005, he is a writer on Jewish issues and is a qualified tour leader to the Holy Land.
He says that this ordination event has relevance in his research studies in three separate areas.
First, the 'separateness' of God's Chosen people was a major issue in the writings of the Old Testament. This 'separateness' revealed itself in numerous areas which has been handed down through the ages and is retained today, particularly with the Orthdox Jewish community.
Second, one particular theological position focuses on this 'separateness'. This position cites that the majority of Jews in pre war Germany failed to adhere to this 'separateness' by assimilating into national life and became leaders in banking, business, the arts, threatre, literature, higher learning and the sciences.
"This view cites a divine calling card chastening His people. This theology supports a place in God's continuing economy for Jewish peoples," M V Tronson explained.
Third, it follows therefore that to hold this view, the theology of what is known in academe as 'Super-successionism' – ie, that the Church superseeded the Jews in the economy of God – gets challenged. Another term for this view is 'Replacement' theology.
"Replacement Theology has held sway for two thousand years in Christian academe in that the New Covenment super-seeded the Old Covenant with Christ's death on the Cross.
"Since the establishment of the Israel nation in 1948 this hard line view has come under review with many in academe reconsidering and identifying its floors," M V Tronson noted.
Interestingly, Harry Henkel 83, the subject of M V Tronson's 24th book titled 'Boy Parachutist 1943-45' which is the biography of a 16 year old called up into the Wehrmacht.
Harry Henkel provides a first hand account of pre-war Germany and its anti-Jewish indoctrination within the education system.
