Here is a question for you to ponder: how many times have you had to start something over because of making a mistake, not remembering details or lack of clarity? For whatever the reason might be resulting in you having to start over, I think it is fair to say at we can all attest to having to cross this hurdle at some point along the unpredictable journey - that is life.
Why is starting so difficult?
Not only can we attest to it, we can also say; it is hard and scary! However, have you ever asked why? Well, I did some research and here is “everybody’s research bestie” told me… I asked Google: “Why is starting over so difficult?” Leading me to a site, ‘madamemadeit’ which in a nutshell said,
“Starting over is hard because you have to hit the reset button in order to go through what you already went through. It also implies that you will probably encounter the same obstacles you already overcome.” (madamemadeit, 2018),
With this information, I proceeded to ask, how do you cope and ‘Better Up’ came to the rescue with these well known insights or reminders if you will; because in truth these might not be new. In paraphrasing, this includes doing a reflection of the situation, examine your value system, reassess the objectives, be brave to commit to change, make your next move, where necessary seek accountability and keep track of your progress. (Miles, 2022).
What does the bible say?
We know the bible is the ultimate guide to life, so does it say anything about starting over?
Motivation verses about starting over
The Lord’s loving kindness indeed never ceases, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations chapter 3 verses 22 - 23)
“And He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected by weakness,’ Most gladly, therefore, I am well content with weakness, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weakness, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians chapter 12 verses 9 - 10)
If you look at the two scriptures shared you will see that both are indeed a motivation to push and are verses of reassurance.
Advice interpretation from scripture
Lamentations chapter three verse 12 is a perfect reminder that it matters not if you want to start over, He would still remain faithful and that for each time or how often you start over there is a new grace for you to get through.
Secondly, 2 Corinthians chapter 12 verses 9 - 10 also ties in well as a reminder to say, God has more than enough grace in the tank prepared for you and in the moments where you are not able to, based on the level of your strength, he will be there just to support you.
Advice from my point of view
We have all been there. We can all at whatever level we are at, starting over at anytime be it via the mistakes that we make, not understanding something as clearly, failing at something (not producing the result we expected at a particular time) or readjusting to a situation; it can be challenging but remember, it is quite fine to pause just keep your goal in mind and keep going until you get to whatever your goal is.
God is always present, when you cannot see him trust him still - even in the sight of the unknown - God knows all things. And if nothing else be confident of this: Anything God does is perfectly done. Sounds cliche, I know but the truth remains.
Starting over might not be a bad choice but actually a better one and it also does not have to be starting from scratch but actually a new approach to the same problem and that is okay.
