At Comic-Con 2016, a lot about the eighth and final season of The Vampire Diaries was revealed, with much discussion centered upon which of the couples will get a "happy ending," and which will end in tragedy.
According to Buddy TV, actors Matt Davis (Alaric) and Zach Roerig (Matt) sided with fans in hoping the show ties up its final season with a happily-ever-after, however, they revealed some characters will not get such a sendoff.
One of the major question marks is whether Nina Dobrev will return as Elena Gilbert to tie up her love story with Damon Salvatore, played by real life ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder.
Dobrev, previously the show's lead actress up until Season 6, was last shown in a 60-year slumber. Damon, was lured into the vault after hearing her voice in the last episode of season 7. This has garnered hopes of Elena returning to the show one last time despite much speculation the ex-couple do not want to reunite both on- or off-screen.
More recent couple, Bonnie and Enzo have become a fan favorite after falling in love in Season 7, which revealed in a flashback sequence how bad boy Enzo is actually a true gentleman at heart. Despite finding love, Enzo was last seen being dragged in the vault and emerging as a heartless, ruthless killer, an event Plec teases will see "[Kat] Graham's character...paralyzed by what has happened."
Are they or aren't they couple Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and Caroline Forbes (Candice King) had a shaky relationship throughout but their passionate kiss in the Season 7 finale gave fans hope for a happy ending.
Finally, the unlucky-in-love Alaric will welcome a nanny to take care of his twin daughters, which might give a fresh hope to this love life.
TV Fanatic reported that the nanny named Seline will feel an extraordinary bond with the children and, season 8 will expose the true nature of this bond.
