The battle intensified to avoid the drop as all teams involved played. West Ham and Blackburn shared the points in a nervy match that ended 1-1. Wolves destroyed rivals West Brom, winning 3-1 to take them out of the bottom 3, whilst Blackpool nearly took all 3 points away at Spurs only to see Defoe score in the last minute to salvage a point. Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Wigan to all but send Wigan down, and Birmingham lost to Newcastle to leave them still in some trouble with 2 matches to play.
Other matches saw some entertaining scorelines. Liverpool won 5-2 away at Fulham whilst Sunderland finally won, beating a stubborn Bolton side 2-1. Everton won against the run of play, beating Manchester City 2-1. Stoke continued their impressive form, beating Arsenal 3-1 at home.
