After a controversial last second try to Josh Dugan in Canberra followed up by an implosion against the resurgent Bunnies, Coach Wayne Bennett has questioned to attitude and hunger of his players in the public media arena.
I definitely agree with Wayne that his players lack attitude, and hunger, but I must question his reasoning for the sudden decline.
I cannot believe that a player just doesn't want to win for the sake of not wining. Nor do I think you can have a premiership hangover in round 21 of the following year.
I believe the reason Wayne's chargers are not performing is that they no longer believe they are Wayne's number one chargers. Having already announced his signing earlier in the year to go to Newcastle. Perhaps the players feel let down that so much work has gone in to recruitment for Newcastle that they believe they have already lost Wayne.
It has to be unsettling when you hear rumours of player signings and also seeing players moved on from Newcastle mid season that you must wonder just how much time Bennett is donating to Newcastle whilst still claiming to be the head coach of St George.
Also the signing of Darius Boyd must be frustrating for the loyal St George players.
Time will tell and the results never lie, I can't wait to see how this one resolves.
