Extremist church Westboro Baptist is scheduled to picket Gay Christian Network, a huge LGBT Christian event. The unique four-day conference is scheduled to begin on Jan. 8 in Portland, Oregon.
The church, officially given the title of "hate group" in a few countries, tweeted from their official account @WBCSaysRepent that there is no such thing as a gay Christian:
"@ByronBeck Westboro Baptist Church plans to demonstrate @ Portland event billed as..." "Gay Christians" #NoSuchThing #ChristiansObeyChrist"
The Gay Christian Network's website called the event "The World's biggest LGBT Christian event" and titled this year's event theme "Together at the Table", quoting 1 John 1:7a: "But if we walk in the light as God is in the light, we have fellowship with one another."
GCN focuses on Christian fellowship. The network's official site states: "There are many things that can divide us, but we are all invited to the table to share in God's love and Christian fellowship."
Westboro Church has actively picketed gay-related events and homosexuals with gusto since the early 90s. The church gained infamy with their slogan "God hates fags".
The church's controversial moves include picketting military funerals and celebrity funerals. Westboro Church claims its members follow Primitive Baptist and Calvinist principles.
