Ruchi Shanghvi, is Facebook's first woman engineer who helped with the development of Facebook's Platform and Newsfeed. "Once you free your mind about a concept of harmony and music being correct, you can do whatever you want", this is Sanghvi's much loved quotation from the song "Giorgio by Moroder" by Daft Punk. This quote represents her perception about the world of business.
Shanghvi does not have many mentors. But she has high respect for people like Steve Jobs, Elon Musk and Bill Gates. She also said that the relationship with people is very important, without it work will be difficult.
She lives in a world dominated by boys, both in school and in work. She said that she has already adjusted to that kind of environment. She is aggressive, particularly opinionated, and has few feminine characteristics. Shanghvi does not have friends around her and said that "the one thing to remember is that in any company, everything is based on trust". At work, she truly works hard to gain that trust.
The demand for female executives is the biggest change that she has seen. Without a woman in an executive team is not all right, according to Sanghvi. There are needs for women engineers and female executives. But she is saddened by the slow turnaround on board-seat and made a statement that based on the study, women needs 10 years to seat 40% on board.
When asked what makes her lonely, she answered: "I think the biggest thing that makes me feel lonely is that I feel as though I don't connect with my colleagues the way that they connect with each other."
She advised that people "need to live life with no regrets." She added, "when in doubt, or when afraid toward something, ask yourself with this question: "what would you do if you weren't afraid and do that."
