A dip in show ratings might spell the end for ABC drama Revenge, which has held viewers' interests at bay since season 1 with unpredictable twists and turns, as well as shocking deaths.
But the same cannot be said of season 4, and a significant decrease of show viewers might just get the series off the air.
A lot of websites are already predicting the show's death, including Entertainment Weekly. In its Deathwatch report, the news agency said that Revenge "might go into the ground this year."
TV by the Numbers are on the fence with Revenge being cancelled. "Revenge is now a 'toss up' to be canceled or renewed," it observed.
Meanwhile, TV Series Finale also noticed the show's downward spiral from popularity. It said that "ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival."
It said that the first season of Revenge averaged a 2.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.8 million viewers. The second season dropped to a 2.2 rating and 7 million. The third season dipped worse and the ratings averaged a 1.6 in the demo with 5.9 million viewers.
This fourth season, the show seems to be generating less views. The episodes that have aired so far have averaged a 1.2 rating with 4.9 million. "It's the network's lowest-rated drama and second-lowest rated scripted series (below Friday's Cristela sitcom)," said TV Series Finale.
But Nick Wechsler, the actor who plays Emily's childhood friend Jack Porter, likes to think otherwise and said that the show can stand up for at least two more seasons.
"I think it can go many more seasons," Wechsler told The Mirror. "I think you can get two more solid seasons out of it - season four and five - and then something would have to shift dramatically after that in order for me to believe that we could get another few solid seasons out of it. With David coming back and everything, I think you've got a solid two."
