Both World Vision and Caritas Australia have pledged to help the Philippines as the country now faces the terrifying Typhoon Hagupit, only a year since they faced the devastating Typhoon Haiyan.
Caritas Australia bared that Typhoon Hagupit is moving towards central Philippines with a diameter of 600 km and a 24-hour rain accumulation of about 100 to 300 mm, which is considered heavy to extreme.
Both agencies have estimated around 4.5 million people to be affected by the typhoon. Hagupit is considered the strongest typhoon to hit the region this year, and will cross over the same areas that were hit by Haiyan last year.
"People here are so scared. They have been panic buying and now the stores are empty. Most people have moved to evacuation centres," Cecil Laguardia from World Vision Philippines shared.
In a statement, World Vision said that it is already preparing to respond to potential devastation in areas already battered by Typhoon Haiyan just one year ago. Their response would include extreme weather resistant rebuilding and the continuity of disaster preparedness awareness.
Meanwhile, Caritas Australia and local partners are actively monitoring the situation, with rapid assessment teams ready to be deployed at any time.
Caritas Australia has also provided contingency funding through their local partners in the Philippines.
