But I must confess that I am a 'glancer' of the Sydney Morning Herald and News.com.au on-line Cars sections for 'interest' and when I am in the market to buy a new vehicle. If there is an item that interests me, I will happily bring it up on my screen, and ascertain the substance of the article, about this or that motor vehicle.
In our society, there appear to be many motoring buffs as evidenced by the popularity of motor racing, motoring magazines and the fact that there are 'car sections' in many newspapers. However, there are many more who access the convenient 'on-line' features of car advertisements in the same way that I do.
This is similar to the development of cricket on television. There are now cameras at every angle, including a 'stump cam', the viewer gets to see what took place from every which way. Every couch potato and his dog can now claim to be an instant expert on the very finest points of this 120 plus year old game; and think themselves even more knowledgeable than the umpires.
It is a similar situation for motor vehicle 'glancers', like me, of on-line motor vehicle data. Like the amateur cricket commentators, we can see the vehicle from every which way and access detailed data that would make a Formula 1 pit crew blush. No matter if it is an advertisement or the website of a select motoring company; one click and it is all there.
But there is more.
Although this is a huge help to any enquirer who is checking out any new motor vehicle with an intent to buy, similar information is available to those interested in used motor vehicles and those cars that are now of an age where they can be classified as 'classic' or 'vintage' cars.
From information gained over the years, and honed up by browsing the internet, I have decided that my favourite motor vehicle would have been the Citroen DS manufactured 1955-75. I really think the shape and style of this car is a thing of beauty; and I have found that it was classified by many knowledgeable motor writers as the world's 'best car' (for its time).
How I wish I could have owned one! Maybe I will still have the opportunity – if I keep 'glancing' at the online motoring pages, maybe one day I will find one 'going' at a reasonable price!
The real issue is, would I really want to picking up people for bible studies, church working bees, taking the church young people to the beach or rock climbing in such a prized possession?
