Warwick Marsh from the Fatherhood Foundation said that the National Day of Thanksgiving (NDOT) allows Australians to honour the Aboriginals who are our forefathers in every respect.
Mr. Marsh continued paying respect to Aboriginals saying they were here long before the white settlement. He said that we as a nation owed them a great debt for their love and forgiveness towards the "white man".
"During the National Day of Thanksgiving we have an opportunity not only to give respect but to honour…the Aboriginal and Islander peoples of Australia who were here long before white settlement," said Mr. Marsh. "The indigenous people are our forefathers in every respect and we owe them a great debt for their love and forgiveness towards white man. Our arrival in this great land was anything but gracious and we as a nation need to acknowledge that."
Saturday 26th May 2007 is also National Sorry Day in remembrance of the need for greater understanding, respect and compassion for the original inhabitants of this land, quoted the press statement released by the Fatherhood Foundation.
There is no better way to build love and respect by saying thank you, continued the press release.
