The Prime Minister of Australia, John Howard has warned of the 'real, constant and insidious' threat posed by Islamic fanatics as the Archbishop of York earlier this month had cautioned about drawing 'false' conclusion about Muslims.
Speaking to the Tasmanian State Liberal Council on Saturday, Mr Howard said that Islamic fanatics hated the Australian way of life and were mounting a borderless assault on it, reported News.com.
"Make no mistake, Islamic fanaticism hates the way of life we have, it is dedicated to the destruction not only of freedom of religion, but freedom of the way of life we believe in so strongly," he said.
"Their enemy is the free way of life we hold dear, their weapons are unprecedented, they involve a borderless assault on the way of life and the beliefs we hold dear."
In the U.K. the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu earlier this month used his presidential address to warn about drawing a false conclusion about Muslims due to our fear of terrorism.
He said that the challenge facing Christians was to discern between the two groups of Muslims. The first group is Muslims who are loyal to the holy Koran and dedicated to a vision of Allah who is merciful, holy and kind, which is in contrast to the other group who tendentiously make Allah vengeful, violent and merciless – promising paradise now through acts of brutality and mass murder. In remaking God in their own image, they commit the ultimate act of blasphemy, he continued.
As Mr Howard was delivering his speech in Tasmania, a question now swirl about whether the Australian police will charge Muhammad Haneef, a 27-year-old doctor who is a distant cousin of two suspects held by U.K authorities in relation to the London car-bombing on June 29 and the attack on Glasgow airport in the following day.
