A friend introduced a working opportunity in Amazon to me in the middle of March. After three rounds of interviews, I got the offer a week ago and would like to record some of my reflections in applying this job.
From reluctance to application
To be honest, I was not interested in the role in the first place. Seen from the job description, the new job requires rich e-commerce industry insight and sales experience, of which I have none according to my past working experience. Even though I applied for it, I assumed my resume would be one of those unopened ones.
However, my friend suggested that I should give it a shot as it was a good job. For fear of hurting her goodwill, without updating a word in my resume, I renamed it and sent it. Normally I study the requirements carefully and present the corresponding ability and experience in the resume. I was reluctant to do so this time as I didn’t place any hope on it.
But unexpectedly, I was told that my resume was reviewed, and an HR will contact me in the following week.
From rejection to admission
I waited in the following week and my heart beat accelerated when my phone rang, assuming it would be the call from HR. Nevertheless, my patience started wearing out since there was no phone call from Amazon for three days.
Doubts and unbelief arose in my heart. Was I wrong to pursue this chance? Were they weeded out me? Shall I keep waiting or giving up? I found that I was obsessed with this chance and hardly calmed myself down.
Luckily, our Bible reading schedule fell on 2 Samuel at that time. It reminded me that David eagerly inquired of the Lord when he was about to fight with his enemy. He triumphed when God delivered the enemy to David’s hands. And David become more and more powerful, because the LORD God Almighty was with him. (2 Samuel, Chapter 5, Versus 10)
Likewise, it dawned on me that it was God’s ultimate sovereignty to grant me this job or not. It didn’t depend on my friend’s endorsement, my ability or HR’s evaluation. God will make it happen if it's His will for to go. Otherwise, the seeming dream job will become a trap.
With the new mindset, I collected myself and prayed to God for His will be done on this new opportunity.
From earthly benefit to heavenly treasure
Thanks to God’s mercy! I had two phone interviews on the fourth and the fifth day. Given that the interviews were quite smooth, I thought there might be chance to enter the last round, the face-to-face interview. However, I received a rejection letter in the following Tuesday. Needless to say, I was discouraged by the result, but still thanking God for the opportunity.
Surprisingly, HR contacted me on that Thursday and invited me to the interview, claiming that they want to make the final decision after the interview. I was astonished as it was something that I would imagine but never expect it would happen. Thanks to God grace! I passed the interview and received the offer eventually.
From the earthly point of view, I’m changing into a well-paid position in a renowned company. I thank and praise God for His blessings! At the same time, I thank even more that God leads me to seek His will and presence during the course.
When God said to Moses that Israelites will go up to Canaan, the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey, without Him. Moses didn't think it was a great idea and accepted it.
Instead, he begged for God’s presence. If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth? (Exodus 33, Chapter 33, Versus 15-16)
Moses knows it clearly that what makes us different is the very presence of God. Earthly blessings are good, but short. On the contrary, the presence of God is eternal and unfailing. Let us all seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6, Chapter 6, Versus 33)
