Press Service International, the young writer ministry in conjunction with Christian Today which provides 105 young people a literary uplift by being internationally published once every 5 weeks - was presented with the premier award of the Australasian Religious Press Association’s 2019 The Gutenberg.
Quite apart from the many congratulations and the heightened focus of the young writer ministry, another quite unexpected outcome came the way of Press Service International.
Press Service International (PSI) is a ministry of Well-Being Australia and it is to WBA that the weekly promotional E-Blast - engages in fund raising and the natural CV attributes of the overall ministry.
There are two weekly major E-mail-outs. The first is a Thursday afternoon ‘memo’ to the young writers with their newsy bits and notices. The second is the E-Blast which is sent Sunday afternoons to the financial and prayer supporters of Well-Being Australia.
Unexpected outcome
There is a separate Email each morning - the Daily PSI (Press Service International) is a morning email that is sent to Christian media with the day’s young writer articles inviting them to republish. We do this to broaden the young writer’s by-line and when republished, it provides the young writers a much greater readership.
It is also sent to the young writers, seniors writers, panellists and those engaged in the day to day young writer ministry.
Word got back to us that, now having been awarded the Gutenberg, we needed to sharpen up our Well-Being Australia financial support notice, moreover the Gutenberg recognises professionalism to major Christian media professionalism.
In other words, professional to professional.

The nature of outreach
Outreach comes in many forms. Christian people around Australia have developed charities that provide a wide range of services to their fellow Australians. There is nothing new in this.
We need to be sure, there are those within our society that if ever they had ultimate say, would see off the Salvation Army, AngliCare, Baptist Care, Wesley Mission and the rest of such remarkable, historic and wonderful mechanisms to show Christian love and care.
For example, my wife Delma and I have served the Australian community through such by raising funds for our family and ministry – this is referred to as ‘faith financing’ - we have produced a monthly newsletter for 42 years for this purpose. There is estimated to be 3000 similar couples across Australia in similar funding.
Nothing new in this for Christians serving in community projects. Being alert to those who would come against this as this is part and parcel of our duty of care.
Dr Mark Tronson is a Baptist minister (retired) who served as the Australian cricket team chaplain for 17 years (2000 ret) and established Life After Cricket in 2001. He was recognised by the Olympic Ministry Medal in 2009 presented by Carl Lewis Olympian of the Century. He mentors young writers and has written 24 books, and enjoys writing. He is married to Delma, with four adult children and grand-children. Dr Tronson writes a daily article for Christian Today Australia (since 2008) and in November 2016 established Christian Today New Zealand. Dr Mark Tronson’s Press Service International in 2019 was awarded the Australasian Religious Press Association’s premier award, The Gutenberg.
