“This is the worst possible thing that could have happened. There’s no logical explanation for why this could have happened to me, why God would have allowed this. I’m lost and it’s unforgivable.” Sounds familiar, right? Often times we hit walls, and face moments in life that leave us lost and without the ability to process them.
Our inability to see into the future holds us bondage to our present circumstances. We trap ourselves in an ideology that holds us hostage to a non-truth – we lack God context.
Speaking of context
Context is defined by the Cambridge dictionary as the situation in which something exists of happens. It is further explained that to understand an issue, we have to understand the context in which it takes place. Anything can be taken out of context; whether these are parts of an overheard conversation or text messages intended for another. When we approach life (be it the joys or the challenges), we do so within our human context. We see as far as our natural eyes allow and watch as our faith begins to waiver.
“For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” (1 Corinthians chapter 2, verse 11).
We have not been designed to know the mind of God. Our thoughts are not the same as God’s thoughts. Human context is limited to our plane of existence. We stray in our moments of distress because we feel betrayed and abandoned by the Creator. Our human nature sees only what is in front of us, existing outside of the things which only God can see. Our context becomes our immediate surroundings, the betrayals we feel and losses that plague our mind. We are unable to bring ourselves to the point of seeking greater understanding.
Get context
The big question becomes how do we change our context? How do we begin to see ourselves as being more than our natural circumstances? We need to being to gain the correct context for our lives.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, (2 Timothy chapter 3, verse 16)
The first place we can turn to in times of challenge is the same as the place we turn to in times of joy; the Word of God. This is how we frame our lives. Scripture gives us the ability to change the circumstances that set up and event, we stop seeing moments as short term events, and gain a glimpse of the grand design. Getting context, gaining an understanding of the greater circumstances surrounding moments in our lives and redefining the way we see life.
God context
Have you found your God context? When you think back to that worst possible moment in your life, have you considered God’s view of the moment. You may not understand the reason behind them, but you have the surety that He is in control and that He has a greater purpose. In reality, having God context should change the way you view the world around you.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John chapter 2, verse 16).
John chapter 3, verse 16 is the God context. They circumstances surrounding our entire live, the situation within we exist is the reality that we are loved by the Creator, going to sacrificial lengths to give believers eternity. Let the truth of His love reshape your world, let the God context invade your world and change the way you approach every choice, action and thought. Let the God context become your only context.
