We have an amazing privilege to be partners with what God desires to do in the earth in this time but it calls for a greater sensitivity to His will and instructions. I have been having particularly interesting times with the Lord recently and I think that is attributed to my increased commitment to hearing and being aware of what He desires to do in and through me.
The methods have been particularly odd, as He uses the strangest things to interrupt my day and grab my attention. I have been having episodic revelations, where part one of an insight is revealed to me early in the morning while I’m half asleep and episode 2 made clear while scrolling through Instagram. I think the call at this time is definitely to sharpen our hearing and sensitivity to His voice and His will.
Is that you God?
Growth in discerning the voice of the Lord will always be something we’ll have to practice. It’s been an interesting journey for me trying to distinguish how He chooses to relate to me. I know some people have that upper room experience regularly, where heaven is thundering down revelations your poor frame can’t handle. While for others, it’s not a whole dramatic production. This doesn’t make our interaction with our Creator any less real. It is our responsibility as sheep to learn the ways in which our Shepherd interacts with us.
The Word, the anchor
As I write this I am aware of the fact that people are skeptical about hearing God’s voice and this isn’t an article suggesting that we all hear the audible voice of God. This fear/skepticism might be rooted in experiences where people proclaimed to be hearing from God and in fact weren’t.
I am a firm believer in the truth that the Word of God is what anchors us and is the compass for truth. If we didn’t have a standardized manual to govern our faith, we’d see more whirlwinds of subjectivity that produce cults and false religions. We must always measure what we believe God is saying or impressing on our hearts by His Word, that reveals His personhood and the scope in which He operates.
It is also largely through His Word that he speaks to the believer, The writer of Hebrews says the Word is alive and active and in Timothy, Paul reminds us of the ever relevant purposes of the God breathed Word, which will always be a source for our direct interaction with God.
Communion
A large part of why we were created was communion. Jesus died to provide us with a way to the Father and the Holy Spirit is now within us to make alive this relationship. There is a call to deeper communion with God during this lock-down time, which is fueled by our awareness of God’s reality and our discerning of His will and intent by way of His voice. It’s important that we don’t miss what God is doing because we aren’t conscious of the fact that He is still speaking and the ways He chooses to manifest Himself to us. We don’t serve a mute God.
