“God of our fathers, known of old,
Lord of our far-flung battle line,
Beneath whose awful hand we hold
Dominion over palm and pine —
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
The tumult and the shouting dies;
The Captains and the Kings depart:
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
Far-called, our navies melt away;
On dune and headland sinks the fire:
Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the Nations, spare us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
If, drunk with sight of power, we loose
Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe,
Such boastings as the Gentiles use,
Or lesser breeds without the Law—
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
For heathen heart that puts her trust
In reeking tube and iron shard,
All valiant dust that builds on dust,
And, guarding, calls not Thee to guard;
For frantic boast and foolish word—
Thy Mercy on Thy People, Lord”
Rudyard Kipling.
The only good thing about governments making even more obviously hypocritical rules is that more people become aware how much they have been lied to.
In Australia and New Zealand Anzac Day was commemorated on the 25th April 2021.
According to the Australian Government’s Australian War Memorial website “This Anzac Day we’ll come together, in person and in spirit, to commemorate the men and women who have served our nation in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.”
In Perth, Western Australia, Australia services were scrapped due to their state governments latest lock down. This was the front page of the paper the next morning.
In Melbourne, Victoria, Australia The Shrine of Remembrance in the heart of the city which is normally open to the public 24/7/365 was fenced off by the state government during the week. Normally the event is open to the public, this year it was a ticketed event with many left looking in from the other side of the fence. Meanwhile at the MCG about 2 km’s away over 78,000 people attended a football game. Can you explain any logic behind that rule to me? Does a virus know how to stay on one side of a river?
The Colosseum in Rome, the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built could hold an estimated 50,000 to 80,000 spectators at various points of its history. Now it’s a major tourist attraction. When Rome ruled the world it was a venue of entertainment, a tool of distraction to appease those suffering under Rome’s tyrannical rule.
The more I analyse our current world the more I’m left asking have we forgotten history so quickly? I wonder what the likes of William Wilberforce would think of life in 2021? If you don’t know who he was here’s a link to help you understand the point I’m making. Have we become so distracted by sport, around the clock media in the palm of our hand, and tv’s bigger than some peoples pieces of cardboard, that as a society we can’t see what is really transpiring?
With another member of Parliament this week banned from facebook for spreading medical information that is saving thousands of lives around the world I will continue my call to arms for as long as I can find a way to get my voice heard.
If you haven’t watched the first season of The Chosen yet catch up, they have just started releasing Seasons two. It’s a great visual interpretation of the years Jesus walked among us challenging the perceptions of who he was and what he came to do. They are releasing it via their own app, without any traditional backing so they can get the message out without being censored.
If as Christians we don’t stand up for the vulnerable, the persecuted, the abused, the marginalised who will?
I don’t care who you voted for last time or who you will vote for next time. That is not what this article is about. This is about the legacy you want to leave. The sacrifice those who have gone before us made, lest we forget.
