You may have heard of waking up on the wrong side of the bed, but this morning I woke up on the can’t be botheredside of the bed. Honestly, it has been a busy year of working hard, and today would be my first full day at home in quite a long time!
So, when I woke up, it was a bother to get out of bed, a bother to get dressed, a bother to do anything really. I felt like a kid who drags their feet around the house sulking because they don’t want to do anything, which kind of makes me laugh just thinking about it. I wonder if you know the feeling?
Beyond what you feel
Staying in bed a tad longer than normal, I opened my Bible and read these words:
“Today the LORD will appear to you.” (Leviticus chapter 9 verse 4)
“YES!!” I thought to myself. This immediately had my attention and, feeling more motivated, I continued reading.
‘Then Moses said, “This is what the LORD has commanded you to do, so that the glory of the LORD may appear to you.”’ (verse 6)
I’m listening…
‘Moses said to Aaron, “come to the altar and sacrifice your sin offering and your burnt offering and make atonement for yourself and the people…” (verse 7)
I probably did need to say sorry for my bad attitude…
‘Then Aaron lifted his hands toward the people and blessed them.’(verse 22)
At this stage, I certainly wasn’t in the mood to bless anyone but was quickly adjusting …
‘And having sacrificed the sin offering, the burnt offering and the fellowship offering, he stepped down. Moses and Aaron then went into the tent of meeting.’(verse 22-23)
I was currently spending time with God in my ‘tent of meeting’ so figured I was getting on the right track for a better day …
‘When they came out, they blessed the people; and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people.’(verse 23)
Definitely feeling more like blessing people now …
‘Fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell facedown.’ (verse 24)
Ready to worship!
Challenged by this Scripture and mulling it over in my mind, I pondered on what God was teaching me about getting into the right space with Him.
For the glory of the Lord to appear to us through whichever way He desires, we must first:
1. Come to the altar, confess our sins, be washed clean.
2. Bless the people.
3. Meet with the Lord; spend quality time with Him searching His Word and listening to what He is saying to us.
4. Bless the people.
When we meet with God, something in us changes. Just as I found my morning mood changed from ‘can’t be bothered’ to ‘get up and bless others’ so too God wants us to meet with Him and in doing so, we will be changed and bless those around us having spent time with God and listening to His will for our lives.
So, the next time you feel like not wanting to contribute to the world, let the Son in, meet with Him, and take the joy with you.
