I have been impatiently waiting for Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ trailers to come out ever since they even hinted at the movie. Yes, I was a part of that crazy group that jumped at the chance to watch the leaked trailer from Comic-con, and yes, I was that ‘marvel fan’ that stayed up late and would not do anything else until that trailer was properly released.
Now I know there are much happier and more exciting things in life to look forward to than a trailer about superheroes who aren’t even real. For me, holding such a high expectation and anticipation for the trailer for such a long time, and then finally being able to fulfil that, when I got to watch it, nothing could beat that sensation because I had waited so long for it.
If we treated God’s promises, and expected the most amazing outcomes the way I treated the Infinity War trailer, wouldn’t life be more exciting? We would always be anticipating the next wonderful promise God has in store for us.
Sometimes we forget how wonderful and incredible God’s plans are for us, and so we put his word at the back of minds and fill our head with worldly priorities. However, God has this way of bringing our minds back to what really matters.
Be humbled
It’s a humbling experience when we realise our lives are a very small piece to God’s plan, but to God, our lives mean everything to him. I have recently joined the Red Frogs team at my church and it is such an incredible and humbling experience so far.
When we choose to make God the biggest part of our lives, have an outward look on everyone else’s lives, and make our lives smaller, life actually becomes a lot more bearable and exciting to live. You start to think ‘How can I make that person’s life a little easier for them and bring them to God?’ You start to ask God what he wants you to do, and everyday is a new chance to become a better servant of our God.
Listen
Over the past few weeks, my church pastors have been talking about, to put it short, ‘listening to God and allowing him to have control’. I have always been taught to trust God in everything, to give him my all, to stop trying to control my own life, or to stop being disappointed by the world and start appointing God as my confidant.
In life, when God tells us to do something, sometimes we prolong it. We think to ourselves ‘It’s okay, if it’s God’s will, the opportunity will come around again.’ In some circumstances this may be true, but when God tells us to do something, we must obey him–straight away.
God won’t bless what you aren’t willing to give up. When God tells us to do something, even if it pushes us out of our comfort zone, this is a prime time to listen to him and do exactly what he says because it will be worth it in the end every time.
Hear his voice
We have to be listeners, doers, believers, and always expect amazing things from God because it does happen. When I listen to God and when he tells me to move, no matter what circumstance I am in, or who tells me not to do it, I have to move. After all, God is our creator so why wouldn’t I listen to him above all the other voices?
When we listen to God’s voice, we start to live with purpose. He equips us to do his will, and then prompts us where he wants us. He fulfils us with his purpose in order for our lives to have purpose.
We must live as people who are victorious. God has already won the battle, but every time we win people for God, we are actually leaving everything we know in order to follow him, and we are relying on God to lead us to find his children so we can help bring them home.
Take up your cross
Matthew chapter 16 verse 24 says: ‘Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
We need to use our discernment, know the voice of God, and move when he tells us to. It may not be as easy as we think, but it is sure to be worth it every time.
Don’t wait for the weather to change, or the right people to walk in and help you. We are a move of God—we aren’t waiting for one. If God can call the stars into being, then when he calls his children to take up their cross and follow him, he expects us to.
We may not necessarily know where God will take us, but God knows where we are going because he has it all planned out. Psalm chapter 32 verse 8 says ‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye on you.’
When God calls on us, despite how much doubt we may hold inside ourselves, God knows we can do it and he has equipped us for this moment.
Let go, and let the gentle breeze of Jesus carry you to where he wants you. Be in line with God, and he will make you victorious in his name.
