There are no special circumstances which trump the Word of God. I am not talking about the bible, but the Word which the bible speaks of. The Word who was face to face with God in the very beginning before a single letter or symbol was ever carved or written.
Any honest Christian knows that regardless of our wordplay and cunning catchphrases, the bible has gone through various interpretations, translations, and manifestations. There are parts that supersede other parts, and even parts that seem to conflict with one another.
The wise and Spirit-filled believer isn’t put off by such things, but instead applies themself to understand the complex anatomy of it all.
The book of Hebrews says that God spoke in the various past ages in different ways through his prophets, but has, in the last days, spoken to us by his Son. This Son is the one who inherits all things, that one through whom God made the worlds.
We can listen to the many prophets and read the bible’s many pages, only to end up more confused than ever. We may just find ourselves walking round about a mountain we have already circled.
Until we hear the voice of the Son of God, we cannot understand the world in which we live or live the life the world we live in is looking for.
When I read other Christian articles, and converse with other believers, I see a faithful trust in God and belief for his daily supply to carry on. Yet I cannot deny the sense of wandering that emanates from almost all. It is like a plague of uncertainty has infected the church. When tested, even the asymptomatic can be found positive!
It is possible to have the godliest leaders, supernatural provision from God, a knowledge of God’s law, and still entertain an evil heart of unbelief that departs from the living God, even in visible proximity of his glory!
Signs, wonders, prophets, rituals and readings, provisions, and power. You would think all these things would give a sense of certain faith. History proves otherwise.
What are we missing?
Why should it be that we walk through life with shoes that do not wear out, food from the table of angels and water from the rock, only to perish in the wilderness in which we wander? Are shoes more important to God than us?
Jesus once told the multitudes that they sought him because they ate the loaves of bread he blessed and were filled. Most of us are looking for Jesus for the same thing. Yet there is something more. Jesus wanted those following to grasp something more. When your belly is filled with bread it can be hard to even realise there is much more!
We need the Son of God who gives us understanding.
There is a faith that helps us wander through the world and then there is the faith of the Son which makes the worlds! There is bread that fills us until we hunger again and then there is the bread from heaven that removes our hunger forever. Somewhere, somehow, a generation must come who refuse to circle the same paths any longer. We must see the Son for who he is and believe in the all-surpassing final Word of God.
I fear that too often we behave like the Pharisees did, by circling back to Moses or some obscure scripture to make sure the Jesus we know lines up with our understanding of scripture. We limit Jesus through our unbelief.
To limit Jesus is to ultimately limit ourselves.
His incarnation into human flesh means whatever we believe concerning him is what we shall also obtain. There is no voice louder or truer than the voice of the Son of God echoing through redeemed humanity.
There are so many heroes of faith I have learnt from over the years that accomplished so much. Yet, at the end of the day, they are all dead. They were like manna from heaven in their day, feeding a generation. But they had an expiry date. God limited their use.
Jesus knew He was something more.
He said he was sent by the LIVING FATHER. He is more than manna. He has no expiry. He can never be limited by history, by pen or ink. There are things about Jesus the bible can never make us understand, and, thus, things about ourselves we cannot know by reading.
We must come to terms with, and confront, the Christ within ourselves by seeing and hearing the living Christ in others.
We must avoid using scripture to test or limit the Son of God by previous generations’ impositions. Instead, we should let scripture reveal and release the Christ as it did for Jesus.
The Son of God is not circling, or wandering, or worried. Scripture was made for him. The world was made through him and for him. Heaven was made new to house him. As were you. What is his is ours.
Let’s get back our certainty. The world is obsessed with expired foods and philosophies. We have the Bread of Life.
