How many of us have arrived at the point where we have had enough of how things are turning out, and we just want to make something happen! Bring our own breakthroughs, change our own circumstances, move countries, escape, start over, or even give God an ultimatum. Sometimes we can think these things when we feel backed into a corner of waiting for what seems like just too long for our breakthroughs from God.
Being honest
Just being real here—there are moments when I have wanted to be back in control of my own life rather than keeping it surrendered before Jesus. It seems like it would be less painful to make things happen myself rather than continuing to wait for my heart’s desires to come to pass that God has promised and seeing no fruit on the vine (Habukkuk chapter 3 verses 17-18.) However, the amazing thing about Jesus—and the reason I just keep on coming back to his feet is his tender compassion.
There is no one else I know in this earthly life that I can come to with all my brokenness, who receives me with such love and understanding. He knows I get frustrated and he knows I hurt. He even lets me swear at him in anger and pain sometimes and his response to me is grace upon grace. His mercies are fresh every morning! He gently guides me back to being in alignment with his heart and his will for me and reminds me of Jeremiah chapter 29 verses 11 again: ‘For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future’.
Hope gets breathed in my heart again by His spirit and I once more enter into His rest where I know his promises over me are a done deal. They are yes and amen.
I am blessed
I have also started to realise that there is no good fighting God on his plan for my life. If he says I am blessed then I am blessed. My heart’s desires might unravel in a different order than I thought but they will still be fulfilled in Gods order and way. If he says I will be fruitful then I will be so. If he says Ephesians chapter 3 verse 20 over me—that ‘he will do immeasurably more than I can ask for or imagine,’ then who am I to argue or not believe him? For he cannot lie and although the journey can be painfully slow at times, there will also be times where we see his hand move and there will always come a time where we finally feel the beginning of his breakthroughs for us. For ‘he who promised will be faithful to fulfil’ (Hebrews chapter 10 verse 23).
Inspired by Elijah
Like Elijah who prayed seven times for rain, I have been praying and waiting many years for some of my breakthroughs. Elijah inspires me though, because when he saw a tiny cloud on the horizon he gets ready and prepares his servant to run before the heavy rains will stop him from going (1 Kings chapter 18 verse 44.) I believe we need to be preparing ourselves for the coming breakthroughs that God will bring, because he is faithful.
I’ve had the very beginnings of breakthrough in one area this week and I can tell you it is worth the wait when God births something instead of man. I have started to record at home some of the songs that I’ve written over the last few years and God seems to be raining down faithfully on each track as I create it with him. Harmonies and melodies are all coming together in a beautiful heavenly way.
It’s very exciting to be on the other side of the waiting as I begin to birth the music he has given me. Although it’s a small cloud in perspective of all the big things I am still waiting for from God, I have decided to prepare to run with it, believing like Elijah that big breakthrough has already started to gain momentum and is on the close horizon.
