Have you ever fallen in love with someone? Isn’t it the best feeling ever in this world? The moment your heart beats towards someone, you instantly forget about the pains of the past; you forget about your current problems. Your current situation doesn’t stop you from anything you want to do because you are completely and totally focused on the one you’ve fallen head over heels for.
In this way love is like a superpower vanishing away all that is ugly and difficult because you are so mesmerized by the present, being in love, and the beauty of the one you love. You want to give all your attention and all your energy just to being able to capture the heart of that person.
What else can you add? There are so many things to talk about when you are in love. Every detail of the person you desire to know begins to carry strong emotions, and you just want to think and talk about him or her all day long. You want every good thing to happen to the one you love.
As I was typing these things, I realized this is how God feels towards each and every one of us, his children.
God is Love.
No wonder God’s love is such a powerful thing that it is able to overcome death and cover a multitude of sins. It focuses on what is pleasing and good instead.
Zacchaeus is an example of a man who received this kind of love. Those around him knew the kind of man he was, they knew his sins, but Jesus called him by his name and even visited his house. As a result Zacchaeus repented, out of joy for the goodness, kindness and love that Jesus Christ showed him that day.
God does not call us by our sins but by our name. Isn’t His love so great? When we come to the knowledge that God is so in love with us and wants to visit the home of our hearts despite knowing our mistakes and weaknesses, all the negativity within and around us fades away. The King of kings captures our hearts. Like Zacchaeus, we begin to see and behold the beauty of the One who is truly worthy of love, worship, and glory.
Not that we love God first, but it was Him who loved us first.
Most people find it hard to connect to the heart of God and struggle in their love for Him. I was like that too. I thought I had to do something in order to prove my love for God. But it was just frustrating because I knew myself.
Then I came to know about the love of God through His Son; that Jesus Christ hung on the cross, willingly sacrificed his flesh and blood, bore our sins, and allowed Himself to go through such terrible pain physically, and emotionally, so we could have the whole of heaven and become children of God. I felt this was God’s embrace from heaven. The embrace of our Heavenly Father who so loved us.
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans chapter 5, verse 8)
Previously, I could imagine falling in love with a person whom I could visually see, touch, smell and feel, but it had never crossed my mind that falling in love with God is actually possible.
Though our eyes don’t see Him, our skin can’t touch Him; our hearts can feel His embrace. Who could not fall in love with this amazing God? I’m so mesmerized by the beauty of our Maker.
