I recently finished reading ‘Gianna: Aborted… and Lived to Tell About It’. Gianna’s story of surviving an abortion is not as uncommon as we think. Despite being diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a result of a saline abortion, this incredible young lady braves through the physical and emotional challenges she faces and thrives! Gianna uses her life story to glorify the One who gives breath to all lives.
The world we live in
Stories like Gianna’s are more unheard than uncommon. If you do a bit more research and look pass the textbook script of the media, you will find many stories like hers.
And there will be more coming…
Here, in New Zealand, extreme abortion laws have been passed allowing babies to be aborted up to the point of birth. Sure, what seems to be like guidelines have been put into place, but these have not been well defined and are slippery slopes to walk on. This is clearly seen with the born alive provision (no care will be provided for babies born alive as a result of an abortion) and foetal pain provision (abortion procedures do no need to ensure that the foetus does not feel pain) were voted down.
Life at birth is not the only ones under attack. New Zealand’s End of Life Choice Act came into force on 7th November 2021. It is now officially legal for euthanasia and assisted suicide to take place.
The pandemic that is roaring through the different countries has also put a value on life. At the beginning of the pandemic, some countries struggled with the overwhelming numbers that were coming in for medical care. They started making choices about who deserved to be given an opportunity to live and who should be left without treatment.
At this point in the battle against Covid, there is a clear distinction being made between the vaccinated and unvaccinated. If you choose to be vaccinated, you have the right to live life as normal. However, if you choose not to roll up your sleeves, you will be limited in terms of what you can access. For instant, access to medical care is still available, but there are already private practices that are imposing restrictions in order to protect their patients and staff.
A reminder
With all these things happening in the world (and it’s not going to stop), there is no wonder that people question their value. So, this is a reminder that you are precious. Not because I’m trying to be counterculture, or it sounds good to say that.
You are precious. Simply because the One who made you says so.
Here are a few Bible verses to remind us of that:
“For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.” (Psalms chapter 139, verses 13 – 14)
“I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah chapter 1, verse 5)
“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” (Psalm chapter 127, verse 3)
Your life is precious. You have a purpose. You were created for such a time as this (Esther chapter 4, verse 14).
Every time the world devalues your life and makes you question your existence, stand on the Word of God and declare, “I am precious!”
