In our modern day church culture, many have come forward claiming to know Gods word, but having no great effect. I wonder why. If someone knows God, knows about Gods love, believes in God’s power and confesses these things…why are they not effective in life? They usually are stagnant throughout their spiritual walk. Sometimes all their lives.
I wonder about this a lot. I once was stagnant in my life, you know, caught up in church routine, confessing what the crowd confesses. Until I heard about grace. Until I heard about God’s goodness. Soon enough, these messages lead me to a most powerful revelation: my authority being a gift as part of Gods loving kindness.
Praying with authority
When I realized my authority in God, my life changed. I no longer prayed prayers begging God to do things for me, to “please heal me”, “please bless me”, provide and have mercy on me. No, that’s a prayer for those who don’t realize what God has given them.
Whenever I pray now, I pray with authority. “Lord, in the name of Jesus I cast this pain out!”, “Lord in the name of Jesus I take authority over this lack!”, “Lord in the name of Jesus, I cast this worry and care into your hands, knowing that once I rest in you, results must show up!”.
I honestly have not seen more miracles in my life since I began to pray like this. Not just in my life, but in the life of all in my household! (including my sick pets!)
Our authority in Christ
I never always knew my authority in Christ. Because of my past trauma, I viewed myself as often abandoned, powerless and destined to eat whatever breadcrumbs are thrown my way out of mercy. For two years now, I have seen myself for who I am in God: a daughter of The King, His priority and whom favour and miracles have long been assigned to, from the foundation of the world.
I am still learning about my authority In God. I’m certain my faith still has much more supernatural activity to witness before its fully developed. After all, we don’t develop confidence and trust in God’s love and power until we have seen his track record through months and years of all we have experienced.
A key to discovering power in God is to focus more on the scripture than what church culture says. I have found that many people for one illogical reason or the other, don’t like to hear about the fact we have been given authority and dominion in the spirit. They believe that’s only for Ministers. Some believe only God has authority and say, “how dare we, as humankind, believe we can command our own lives and destiny”.
We all have authority
My reply: God said clearly in His word that all authority have been given to us.
Luke chapter 10 verse 19 (AMP) says: Listen carefully: “I have given you authority [that you now possess] to tread on [a]serpents and scorpions, and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will [in any way] harm you.”
The first word “authority” in this verse is often translated as “jurisdiction” in the original text, while the “power of the enemy” is usually translated as “ability”. In other words, we have been given all authority and jurisdiction over the ability of the enemy. But not authority in our own strength, but authority using the name of Jesus. Its only through Him that we access undefeatable authority.
Have you ever wondered what happened in the beginning, before Jesus came in flesh? In the Garden of Eden…did we have power? Yes!, Genesis chapter 1 verse 28 says, “And God blessed them [granting them certain authority] and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it under your power]; and rule over (dominate) the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.” (AMP).
God intended for His children to be in His image. How can we be in His image if He has authority in heaven but we have none on earth? I’m forever thankful I have authority! I don’t need to get beat up by life’s circumstances. I can speak to the mountains and they will move, I don’t need to worry about my inadequacies because I know I have resources in heaven to assist with whatever issue that is against me.
Use your authority
This same authority is available to you. My advice is to forget the culture of helplessness and stand bold, knowing Gods promises. God doesn’t choose who He will or won’t help. Once you call on Him and exercise your faith, He will perform the impossible, just as He’s doing for all of those bold enough to believe His word.
If you are a beginner in this kind of walk, don’t fear. Take a chance when a problem arises and speak God’s word. One blessing and breakthrough, combined with another blessing and breakthrough will soon pile up to give you all the faith you need for the really tough situations.
Don’t allow any negative voice to steal the knowledge of your access and authority. Satan’s favourite strategy is doubt. Don’t give in. Tell your issue, Jesus and His love exist!
Be blessed!
