The senior writers in Christian Today were initiated at the same time as the young writer program in 2012 so as to provide encouragement to the young writers.
Stalwarts in the program in those early years were Rev Grant Harris (Windsor Park Baptist, Auckland), Major Christina Tyson (Salvation Army Media Unit, Wellington), Liz Hay (professional editor, Christchurch, now Castle Hill – Arthur’s Pass).
Some years later we bought three Over 31s Kiwi writers into NZ senior writers as Christian Today editor David Chang – with a readership of 18-35 years – wanted young faces in NZ senior writers. This saw Emma McGeorge (Auckland), Esther Koh and Mussita Ng (both Wellington) ) move to seniors writers.
In 2022 two of the eight NZ senior writers moved on – Christina Tyson after 9 years of sterling service, and Emma McGeorge after writing for 6 years and winning a number of Basil Sellers Awards.
New faces
NZ young writer awards Panellist Sarah Richards who had been a journalist for a number of NZ Christian publications including the NZ Bible Society, was sought and agreed to join the NZ seniors writers.
This meant we were still one short - we are pleased to announce Josh Taylor the coordinator of the Kiwi young writers, a Christchurch based young writer, a solicitor and the president elect of the NZ youth writer upcoming entity has been welcomed into NZ senior writers.
