The 2021 young writers conference on Saturday 11 September on the Gold Coast is hosting Thomas Devenish of Hobart as one of the plenary speakers.
Thomas Devenish has been a young writer for eight years and in 2016 was an award winner. He progressed from a young writer to the Australian Over 31s grouping and has seen the young writer program develop over all these years.
Growing up with a love of the arts and photography, at College he was introduced to the career opportunities in the media and sought to become a cameraman. After securing training employment with Southern Cross Television as a cameraman/editor he discovered that the world of video editing and motion graphics was where the excitement for him really lay.
Developing his skills while creating TV commercials and editing local TV shows he progressed to become the lead motion designer for Southern Cross in Tasmania. Highlights included working on award winning media campaigns for Crime Stoppers and creating the regional station branding for Southern Cross Television.
Five years ago Thomas Devenish went out on his own as a freelance motion designer, developing opportunities for companies to hire him with his now highly established skills. His portfolio now includes work for the ABC, National Geographic and content that has aired across the US, France and Russia.
Thomas Devenish lives in Hobart, he is married to Laura and they have two girls. It was a privilege for Delma and me to have dinner with them in Hobart not so many years ago.
Plenary
The young writers are part of Press Service International in conjunction with Christian Today with young writer columns - six articles a day including Comment, Music, Art, Sport, Science, Theology, Philosophy and much more besides. In effect it is a literary program providing young people an opportunity to be published in Australia, New Zealand and Internationally.
Thomas Devenish plenary comes after morning tea in which he will have on the big screen some of his professional work. As Thomas has been in the program so long he is ably qualified to speak - on the diversity of subject of the young writers as he himself - has had the privilege to write and be published.
Much like his professional work with television and company / industry presentation – of which is full of diversity and specific interest, so too the nature of young people writing for Christian Today.
