The Whitsundays Laguna Quays Respite coordinated by Well-Being Australia for missions enjoyed many mission visitors this year - Saturday 29 February – 15 March is our first 2020 visit and we’re keen to view the wonderful maintenance undertaken. The Whitsundays mission respite facility has provided many mission families / couples and chaplains - a much deserved rest and recuperation.
Since our last visit in November, on the ground, locals Will and Margaret Pearce have been engaged in maintenance and these are the tasks undertaken.
Jan-March are the windy months with the occasional Cyclone passing bye and the large glass table donated by Brisbane’s Fishes of Men in the barbeque needed tying down. The rear security door needing a lock fix, the large heavy work bench on the entertainment a repaint.
The important one was a repaint of a section of the 2nd bedroom wall with a child’s crayon scribble. We realise, having raised 4 children ourselves, and now grand children, these types of things happen. This is part of the maintenance required when running a mission’s respite house.
This two 2 min video is of its ministry for missionaries, home missions, church full time personnel is remarkable.
Laguna Quays Respite
The respite cottage is situated a fifteen minute drive south of Proserpine airport and a stone's throw from Midge Point. Opened in 2011, Well-Being Australia developed this mission respite ministry after my wife Delma and I had ministered respite to Australian Institute of Sport elite athlete "respite" in both Moruya (Basil Sellers Moruya) and Tweed Heads (Basil Sellers Tweed) since 1992.
The Laguna Quays Respite facility was a dream of ours to serve our mission community with a no-cost rest and recuperation experience and the Whitsundays provides many such opportunities for relaxation. Mission people can drive or fly into Proserpine airport inexpensively.
There is no charge for the Laguna Quays Respite cottage yet visitors are welcome to leave a gifting to help with its functioning costs.
Over these nine years - SIM, CMS, WEC, OMS, SU, TEAR, BCS, UCA, OMF, YM, Wycliffe, BCA, YWAM, MAF, AFES, CM, ASEF, Japan Missions, International Inter-Serve, NZ Missions, Global Interaction, independent missions, school chaplains and Ministers and pastors from many denominations.
It is a three bedroom beach house cottage –many are tired and need rest. It has also been a wonderful solace for pastors and specialist ministry personnel who need timeout to relax their head space
